Privacy policy
ReceiptBook Privacy Policy
ReceiptBook is a receipt scanner and expense tracker that keeps your data on your phone. This policy explains what happens to your information.
The short version
- No account. You never sign up or sign in.
- Your data stays on your phone. Receipts, images, amounts, statements, trips and settings are stored only in the app's private storage on your device.
- Your receipts are never uploaded. The app goes online only to show ads.
- Ads. ReceiptBook is free and shows ads from Google AdMob. Ads never receive your receipts, amounts or any other data you store in the app.
- No analytics. ReceiptBook has no analytics of its own.
What the app stores, and where
Everything below is stored only on your device, in storage other apps cannot read.
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Receipt and document images | So you can view and export them |
| Details read from receipts or typed by you (merchant, amounts, dates, categories, tags, notes, a card's last 4 digits, references) | To organise your expenses |
| Text recognised on receipts | So you can search for words on your receipts |
| Bank statement lines you import | To match them to your receipts |
| Trip routes and distances (only while you record a trip) | To calculate mileage |
| Settings (region, currency, theme, app lock on or off) | To remember your choices |
How receipts are read
Reading text from receipts happens on your device, using Google's ML Kit text recognition model bundled inside the app.
The camera scanner (edge detection and cropping) is provided by Google Play services on your device. ReceiptBook receives only the images you choose to keep. Google Play services is covered by Google's own terms and privacy policy.
Ads
ReceiptBook shows ads provided by Google AdMob:
- a banner on the main screens;
- a full-screen ad at natural breaks: after every few new transactions, a report, a backup or restore, a statement import or a trip;
- an optional video you can watch to go ad-free for an hour;
- a short video to watch when you create a new profile.
To show and measure ads, the AdMob SDK collects information such as your device's advertising ID, IP address, device type and how you interact with ads. Google handles this under its own policy: How Google uses information from apps that use its services.
Where the law requires it (for example in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland), the app asks for your consent before showing personalised ads. You can change your choice at any time under Menu → Privacy & ad choices. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in Android's settings.
The ad SDK has no access to your receipts, images, amounts, statements, trips or anything else stored in the app.
Location
ReceiptBook uses your precise location only while you are recording a trip, which you start and stop yourself. A notification is shown the whole time. Location is never used in the background or at any other time. GPS points are stored on your device as part of the trip.
When data leaves your phone
Only when you do it:
- Sharing or exporting a receipt or report, through Android's share sheet or file picker.
- Backups you save. You choose where. If you pick a cloud folder (for example Google Drive), that provider stores the file under its own terms. Backups can be protected with a password (AES-256 encryption).
Android's automatic cloud backup is turned off for ReceiptBook.
Fingerprint and face unlock
If you turn on App lock, Android checks your fingerprint, face or screen lock. ReceiptBook never receives your biometric data. It only learns whether the check succeeded.
Deleting your data
- Delete individual documents. They stay in Trash for 30 days, then are removed.
- Delete a whole profile and everything in it.
- Uninstalling the app deletes everything it stored. Backups you saved elsewhere are not affected.
Because there is no account and nothing is stored on our servers, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf.
Children
ReceiptBook is not directed at children, and its ads are not set up for children.
